A Local Fluctuation Theorem

چکیده
The Fluctuation Theorem (FT) gives an analytic expression for the probability, in a nonequilibrium system of finite size observed for a finite time, that the dissipative flux will flow in the reverse direction to that required by the Second Law of Thermodynamics. In the present letter a Local version of the Fluctuation Theorem (LFT), is derived. We find that in the case of planar Poiseuille flow of a Newtonian fluid between thermostatted walls, nonequilibrium molecular dynamics simulation results support LFT. An Experimental Test of the Local Fluctuation Theorem in Chains of Weakly Interacting Anosov Systems
An experimental test of a large fluctuation theorem is performed on a chain of coupled “cat maps”. Our interest is focused on the behavior of a subsystem of this chain. A local entropy creation rate is defined and we show that the local fluctuation theorem derived in [G1] is experimentally observable already for small subsystems, i.e. the finite size effects, for which the theory says little, a...
متن کاملA local fluctuation theorem
A mechanism for the validity of a local version of the fluctuation theorem, uniform in the system size, is discussed for a reversible chain of weakly coupled Anosov systems.
متن کاملLocal fluctuation theorem for large systems.
The fluctuation theorem characterizes the distribution of the dissipation in nonequilibrium systems and proves that the average dissipation will be positive. For a large system with no external source of fluctuation, fluctuations in properties will become unobservable and details of the fluctuation theorem are unable to be explored. In this Letter, we consider such a situation and show how a fl...
متن کاملThe Local Limit Theorem: A Historical Perspective
The local limit theorem describes how the density of a sum of random variables follows the normal curve. However the local limit theorem is often seen as a curiosity of no particular importance when compared with the central limit theorem. Nevertheless the local limit theorem came first and is in fact associated with the foundation of probability theory by Blaise Pascal and Pierre de Fer...
متن کاملFrom Global to Local Fluctuation Theorems
The Gallavotti—Cohen fluctuation theorem suggests a general symmetry in the fluctuations of the entropy production, a basic concept in the theory of irreversible processes, based on results in the theory of strongly chaotic maps. We study this symmetry for some standard models of nonequilibrium steady states. We give a general strategy to derive a local fluctuation theorem exploiting the Gibbsi...
